The Maple Valley City Council is recruiting individuals who are interested in volunteering to serve on the Planning Commission. The duties of the Planning Commissioner and Alternate Planning Commissioner include attending meetings and making recommendations to City Council on land use issues and revisions to the Development Regulations in the City of Maple Valley. The Alternate Planning Commissioner must also attend meetings so that he/she will be prepared to fill an unanticipated vacancy. The Planning Commission currently meets from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM the first and third Wednesdays of each month in the Maple Room at Lake Wilderness Lodge. Occasional special meetings and workshops on varying days of the week, with advance notice, may also be scheduled as necessary. Meetings are currently held in a hybrid format; attendance may either be remotely via ZOOM or in person.
In order to qualify for this appointment, individuals must be residents of, or own property or a business in the City of Maple Valley. Persons should have an interest in environmental affairs, planning, land use, and residential and commercial development as evidenced by training, experience, or actions. The term of office for a Planning Commissioner is four years and an Alternate Planning Commissioner is two years. In the event an Alternate Planning Commissioner fills a Planning Commissioner vacancy, their term may be extended for up to four years.
Applications for current/anticipated vacancies will be accepted until all positions have been filled. Applicant interviews will be held before the City Council at a future date, as yet to be determined.
