Mentors must be 21 years or older and committed to contributing 2-4 hours a week for one year by making an impact in a young person’s life. SUCCESS mentors receive quality training to foster social and emotional learning (SEL) and resilience; weekly support is provided. All mentors are thoroughly screened and undergo an interview process and intensive training.
SUCCESS seeks individuals committed to helping young people reach their full potential and learn about today’s ongoing needs of children and youth. Everyone is welcome to become a mentor! People with lived experience are a current and significant need. We are particularly looking for BIPOC (Black or African American, Indigenous, People of Color), who are bilingual Spanish or native Chinese speakers, and people in the LGBTQ+ community, especially transgender or non-binary folks.
YES pairs mentors with youth based on interests, needs, background, availability, and location. Mentors and mentees commit to spending 2-4 hours a week together for at least one year. The pair build a schedule and connection based on shared common interests. Mentors and mentees build rapport by spending time together– hiking, shopping, playing games, visiting sporting events, and more! YES organizes community-building activities, such as movie and game nights, hikes, recognition events, and a career exploration and back-to-school backpack event for mentor matches and their families. SUCCESS mentors are never alone; SUCCESS staff provide comprehensive case management with access to evidence-based behavioral health care when needed.
